Grandma Susie

My sisters and I were just thinking about our Grandma Susie. Strong and strong-willed, and (what's a nice word for stubborn?) fierce when she needed to be, and protective of those in her charge. She was also kind and tolerant, the essence of common sense, moral, and true.

She RAN A FARM BY HERSELF for as long as I can remember and throughout my childhood, cattle and crops, chickens and gardens, the whole shebang.

SHE WENT BACK TO COLLEGE AT THE AGE OF 50 to become a school teacher! She taught school until they MADE her retire, and for a second job, she worked in a nursing home, "taking care of old people." She'd lived her whole life in the little community of Crescent Oklahoma, so she very well knew most of those "old people" she was taking care of, and they knew and loved her too.

She's gone some 16 or so years now as I write this in 2022, and we miss her every day. This would be her 107th birthday.

Grandma Susie, Gone, but not forgotten.
